Building a Team
Have you ever realized the effect on your success of not having a team around you? What has kept you from forming a team? What is it about us that makes us want to do everything solo? What is the joy in being a lone ranger? The only thing that being a lone ranger brings to you is a lack of talent. And very slow progress – if any – will occur.
In order to accomplish greater successes in life, we have two types of concepts that we have talked about in this program of The Essence of Life. Most of the concepts that I covered with you were invisible concepts such as purpose, goal, vision, and your thought process. Here I'm going to talk to you about concepts that are visible, and that is of creating a team.
If you know anyone who has accomplished any form of success ask them if they have done it alone. The answer will be “no.” They might have thought about the idea, they might have initiated the process, but they needed the whole team to do it. Why do you need the teamwork?
Like this program you're listening to right now. Do you think I would have gotten to this stage on my own? Not in a million years. I had a whole team of people. These people have all helped me formulate the results that you are enjoying right now. That is what is meant by a team.
So then why do we hesitate to create a team? Why do you need a team? Let’s talk about those two issues.
Each person has been given only so many talents. I don’t remember reading anywhere in the history of the human race where one person was gifted with every single talent. It has not happened yet. God has given you a certain talent. God has given me certain talent.
When I was growing up, I was also taught not to only look at my strengths, but also to look at my weaknesses. And I believe now that that was the wrong teaching. The reason I believe it was the wrong teaching is that all we have to really look at is our strength, not our weaknesses, If you focus on your weakness, your weakness then becomes stronger; and if you focus on your strength, your strength becomes stronger. So in order to accomplish great success in life, in order to create some peace and harmony in your life, you don’t have a choice – you need the team around you to fulfill your dreams.
Do you think Henry Ford created Ford Motor Company by himself? I don’t think so. Even self- proclaimed, self-made millionaire Donald Trump, had lots of help along the way.
On the other hand, I cannot blame your thought process if you are a lone ranger. I was there myself. I tried to do everything by myself. I was burning the candle at both ends and it only brought frustration and lack of results.
So I had to come to the realization that in order to accomplish the type of quantum leap I was looking for, I needed a team. I looked at all the strengths that I had, and I found the people with the strengths that I don’t have. I also looked at the things I really enjoyed doing, because if I force myself to do the things which I don’t have a passion for, I will not be able to perform. So I found the people according to the tasks that I didn’t enjoy doing, but they did. As a result of doing it this way, we were able to put a wonderful team together.
If I had stayed a lone ranger, you probably wouldn’t be listening to my voice right now. I would still be writing the bills and ordering the supplies and even cleaning the office. So the teamwork has given me the freedom to do what I do the best. Teamwork has given me the freedom to also follow God’s order.
You will say, “What does God’s order have to do with building a team?” It does, because this is your responsibility. You are on this earth to help as many people as you can. It is your responsibility to bring the best out in other people. It is your responsibility to show them the path of success.
Now if you don’t have a team, you are not fulfilling any of those responsibilities. So when I created my team, not only did I become a better leader, I also made a big difference in other people’s lives. That is called creation and that is called God’s work.
So let’s go back and re-evaluate some simple facts of why people don’t create a team, especially when they know it’s going to bring more results for them. First, they think that nobody can do better than they can do. Well, you know you are wrong on that issue because everything you do has been done many times before you arrived here, and they have probably been done a lot better than you do, so you know that issue doesn’t hold any water.
People think they will become dependent on their team. Actually, once you become dependent on it, it is a good dependency to have.
You're afraid they might leave. So what? The U.S. president is elected every four years and the Country has been running smoothly ever since 1776. So don't have any fear of a team member leaving.
In my own personal and professional life I have experienced another real fear, one you may not believe. People are afraid to bring a team member who might end up doing a job better than they do. They are afraid they will have insecurity in their life if a team member does better than they do. It's really the other way around. When I looked for my associate doctor, I tried to find someone who was more educated than I was, who can bring more talent than I have to offer, because that's the Law of Creation.
I might lose some of my power and authority if I have a team. I might lose my ownership. I might lose my control. Then I doubt my own leadership and I doubt my own ability to manage and handle the team. Some of your bad experiences from the past might be keeping you from having a team.
Sure it's going to be challenging. Sure it’s going to take some time. But that time will be well spent in creating a dream, because without a team, you are going nowhere. And if you go somewhere, it is going to be very slow. By the time results arrive in your life, physically or mentally, you might not be able to enjoy them. So if you want fast, quantum leap growth and satisfaction, you don’t have a choice but to have a team.
This applies to your personal life. This applies to your professional life. And this applies to your financial life.
Now remember at the start of this session, I talked to you about my financial losses. One of the reasons for the losses was that I was trying to do it myself. If I had had a team with me to guide me, warn me, suggest to me, I probably would not have had those losses. But now I am glad those losses occurred because they brought a greater awareness to me, and they put me into this search for this awesome material, which I might not have come across otherwise. So I accept that as a gift from God, even the losses.
Now let's talk about how to build your team. First you make the list and see what your weaknesses are and in what areas you can use someone's help. Once you have made that list, try to find the people with the talents that you are missing. That's how you will cultivate your team. Once you have one or two members in your team, others will be attracted to it.
Learning from my financial losses, I have created an awesome team. I have my financial mentor, Loral Langemeier. She is the author of Millionaire Maker. She really nailed the concept of the team in my head. With her help and help with my networking, I am able to create my professional and financial team that are bringing results to me.
So, ever since Loral Langemeier taught me the principle of a team and its effectiveness, she has been very helpful to me in putting my finances in order. Now if you are wanting to create a team for your finances, I can highly recommend that you to go to her web site at www.liveoutloud.com. It will show you how to create your wealth team, and I am very thankful to her.
I wanted to mention some more fine points for creating a team. Once you have established a team, you must trust them and have faith in them. Second, you have to let it go, and this means of your control. This has been a curse of the human race, wanting to control other people. So once you create a team, if you are trying to control them, you are really going down the path of destruction.
I want to talk about forgiveness, as it relates to the control. The way I understand forgiveness is this: When somebody has done some harm to me, I should forget about it. I go beyond the definition of forgiveness. That also means to completely let it go. It means to give full trust to your team. Sure, when you have established a team, it is your responsibility to supervise and motivate, but it’s not your responsibility to interfere and guide them on a daily basis because that will be contrary to establishing a good team.
Don’t watch over them every second to see what they are doing. Have some faith in them. Don’t tell them how to do the job when you have already hired qualified people to do it. You have to let them do their job and, once you do your supervision, once you do your evaluation, and if you find a drawback, that is the time to correct it. If you box somebody in constantly, they will not be able to perform as they would do with their own free mind and spirit.
So the first thing to do is find the qualified people who can support you, who believe in the same purpose as you do. They are in harmony with you. A good team will help you fulfill your dreams. They will not interfere with you.
If you want to learn more about team building and the whole science behind it, you can go to my other company’s web site, Win Practice Performance – www.WinPracticePerformance.com – where we teach the whole science of team building. I want you to leave here with one message, and that is in your journey to total success, having a strong, wonderful team is a must.
Once you have decided on your purpose and you have set up your goals, you want them to come to a completion. You want them to come into physical form. And this you can accomplish a lot easier with the help of a team instead of doing all alone.
We have talked about a professional team and building your financial team. How about your personal team? Even in your personal life, to have total satisfaction and enjoyment, you need a team of people around you. As in my case, I am one of those lucky ones in that my Mom happens to live with me; I have three wonderful, amazing children; and my sister lives two blocks away from me. I have made an extra effort to know all my neighbors, either by doing a block party or inviting them over to the house. And you know what that did? That created a feeling of a team. As my kids were growing up they knew that Peter, next door, or Fred, across the street, is part of our family. And if these family members ever find my children doing something they shouldn’t be doing, there is a whole team watching them! So in your personal life, you have to have a team as well.
When you go to church, what are you doing? You’re making friends and family, and they become part of your personal growth. In order for you to grow personally, you need a team of mentors, of teachers, and coaches. I have spent tons of money, energy, and time in my busy schedule and practice to travel to different parts of the world to improve myself by learning. In doing so I have created a whole team around me who have helped me grow personally. So don’t ignore any part of your life in creating team.
I want to be your first team member through The Essence of Life. This is the simplest thing you can do. If you read the book and listen to the audio, I guarantee that you will have an awesome personal team to start with.
This is Dr. A., and thank you.
